Yes. It’s 2024 and slavery still exists, right here in Australia. People are being bought, sold and treated like property. Human beings brought here from other countries under false pretences, their passports confiscated by traffickers. And people in Australia drawn into slave-like conditions. They’re forced to work in factories, farms, restaurants, on building sites and in people’s houses.
As cheap labour, domestic servants and in sexual exploitation. For long hours, seven days a week, with little or no pay and no hope of escape. Facing constant abuse, threats and violence.
In total, up to 41,000 people are being kept in slave-like conditions, right here in Australia.
It’s shocking, heart-breaking and we need to take action to fight it.
